The idea is to sleep rough in the grounds of the YMCA at Roneo Corner to highlight the issue of youth homelessness and raise vital funds for the YMCA’s work with young people. So far, about 100 YMCA staff, their friends and family, and even a local MP will be giving up their beds to be homeless for the night, but more people are encouraged to join. Scores of staff and members of the public will be raising money by taking part in a sponsored sleep over on Friday, January 29.
Money raised will go towards helping youngsters in Havering build a futur
YMCA Marketing Manager, Nikki Sedin, said: “It’s the first time we have done this. It will give us all a good insight into what it’s like to sleep outside.
“We have deliberately selected the coldest night of the year – Friday January 29, 2010.
“Our chief executive, director and Romford MP Andrew Rosindell will be taking part in the sleepover too.”
