Thanks very much for choosing and checking out http://www.vincenicollgoalkeeping.com/ it is by no means a one man show. The main man who keeps the school alive and moving in the right directions is Jon Gildersleeve, who I first met in September 2003, when I was the RomfordFC keeper coach, a job I secured after a chance meeting at a pre-season training session with the then Romfordfc manager Mark Reed.
Firstly Jon's background is that he is employed full time as an accommodation placement officer for homeless people.
Jon played at semi professional level as a goalkeeper but turned down the chance at 21 to play for West Ham United FC to concentrate on his works career in building at the time.
Jon set up a youth football team when on the committee of a children's club in 1999 for local children that werent suitable enough to join a football team even though his own son played locally for a premiership side for 7 years, the club under Jon's direction and guidance achieving regional award from Essex FA as the best FA Charter Standard Club and winning the fair play award whilst on tour.
Jon had sucessfully written the charter and was later rewarded for his committment by being nominated in 2003 and 2006 and coming runner up in the Havering Council Sports Council Sports Personality awards.
Romford Football Club were fully aware of his skills and their chairman approached and sucessfully brought Jon to the club as their Youth Development Officer, a position which fitted him like a glove. Jon put together and set up the Romford FC soccer and goalkeeper school in early 2004, which catered for everyone, regardless of race, gender or ability.
He was also mind full that everyone (parents, guardians etc)were aware that we operated a well run Youth Scheme, which again Jon was heavily involved in writing the FA Charter Standard Club, FA Charter Standard Adult Club and FA Charter Standard Holiday Course Club awards, which also put Romford FC on the map as they became the first club in Essex to achieve this along with being accredited by the FA for ‘Best Practise’ towards grassroots football and safeguarding children. Jons reward for his 50 -60 hrs of voluntary work each week was rewarded in 2008 where he won Essex FA Volunteer Award.
It was time to change and move onwards and upwards, so Jon and I decided to set up an independent Goalkeeping school, which we did in April 2008.
Jon’s excellent work in putting together the policies and procedures for Romford FC have been carried forward to the Goalkeeping School.
We have currently Vince, Steve, Chris, Amish, Wayne and Adam as goalkeeping coaches and thankful in the past to Danny Mulrooney and Ricardo Braganza both ex Romford FC, passing on his specialist goalkeeping knowledge.
Since I have been coaching Goalkeepers, some have played for and been placed at various clubs, including West Ham, Chelsea, Arsenal (ladies), Tottenham, Crystal Palace, Potters Bar, Brentwood, Romford, Stevenage, Debden Spts, Risden Wood, Maiden Youth and many more. I have been told by many (well Jon my PA is one !) that I have an easy going but firm nature, towards coaching, with a competitive edge and also a patient desire to improve every single Keeper I coach.
We also have an on-going relation to offer goalkeepers pathways with Lee Heywood and Fulham FC, Laure and Brentford FC, Paul Tighe and West Ham United FC Goalkeeping Academy, Cliff Matthew and Dagenham and Redbridge FC, Barking FC, Romford FC plus being affiliated to other professional academy's.
As a school we cater for 6 year old upwards, both genders, deaf/hearing impaired and special needs. I will usually integrate the keepers to allow them to mix together.
I also attend coaching sessions put on by the London FA (which includes outfield & keepers) to help me keep up with the ever changing and challenging world of football (especially for ‘us’ keepers)
My main reason for setting up this School is my love and passion for the Goalkeeping position, whether it be playing (Yes, I still do !) or coaching. With the team, and contacts I have supporting me, along with the feedback I get, plus seeing the lads and lassies enjoying themselves and improving along the way, that for me makes it all worth while.
